PROJECT CONCEPT
“Reading makes a man perfect” goes an old
saying. Over the years, it is believed that avid readers tend to have a better
grasp on realities and are known to be better judges of people. But, with the
technology boom, there have been concerns, in many quarters, about a setback in
the declining rate of reading habits of today’s generation.
Through reading, it is believed that humans
have the tools to transmit knowledge to each succeeding generation, just as it also
allows one to listen to the wisdom and people of the ages.
BOOK
ALIVE INITIATIVE is a
project which aims at informing the young generations of the essence of reading
and raising awareness, and garnering support from stakeholders and interested
partners on the cause.
Organising this project around secondary
schools, is therefore a square peg in a square hole, because we will be making
maximum impact, as this generation will influence their younger ones and thus
catching them young.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The
habit of book reading seems to have lost a significant importance with the
emergence of globalisation, especially with the emergence of the internet
revolution in information technology (IT), enhanced coverage by TV channels and
blurring of traditional media. These variables seem to have weakened the bond
between books and readers, and this, critics say, have declined the habit of
book reading especially among the younger generation.
The
project aims to raise awareness and provide solutions to the dying reading
culture amongst students and young people and helping them in pursing their
dreams in a right way with the tools of education
