OUR MESSAGE TO NIGERIANS THE 2015 CHILDREN'S DAY CELEBRATIONS.

The general feeling that poor reading habit among Nigerian students is getting out of control is very terrifying and infuriating. The high rate of failure in examinations, the increase in student dropout rate, the production of half- baked graduates, etc, are all affecting the country socially, economically and politically. The Government effort in fighting illiteracy is being thwarted by the students who do not read neither their prescribed textbooks nor for pleasure. The world bank in conjunction with the Nigerian Institute for Social and Economic Research, Ibadan, produced a grim report which has confirmed the fears that average Nigerian graduate who leaves a university or polytechnic with a degree or certificate is not worth the qualification which he is supposed to have. PROJECT OBJECTIVES

     To raise awareness on the dying reading culture in Nigeria         To create an enabling environment for stakeholders in the education industry to come together and proffer solutions on this problem.         To help students with passion for not just reading, but pursing their dreams in a right way with the tools of education         To raise funds for educational projects and donate books and other literary materials to schools and young people.         To set up Readers Club in schools.         To reward and recognize individuals and organisations involved in promotion and educating young people.

PROJECT CONCEPT

“Reading makes a man perfect” goes an old saying. Over the years, it is believed that avid readers tend to have a better grasp on realities and are known to be better judges of people. But, with the technology boom, there have been concerns, in many quarters, about a setback in the declining rate of reading habits of today’s generation. Through reading, it is believed that humans have the tools to transmit knowledge to each succeeding generation, just as it also allows one to listen to the wisdom and people of the ages. BOOK ALIVE INITIATIVE is a project which aims at informing the young generations of the essence of reading and raising awareness, and garnering support from stakeholders and interested partners on the cause. Organising this project around secondary schools, is therefore a square peg in a square hole, because we will be making maximum impact, as this generation will influence their younger ones and thus catching them young.
